Orthotics can correct some malfunctions--skeletal or muscular--to improve how your feet and ankles work.

Reduces tissue loading: The tissues in the feet are under a lot of stress and pressure when you stand. Orthotics change how this stress and pressure is borne by the feet.

Biomechanics of the foot: Genetics may be responsible for some skeletal or muscular abnormalities. Orthotics can improve some biomechanical parameters.

Reduces fatigue: Often when pain is relieved or function is improved, one feels less fatigue when standing or running. This enables the athlete to run faster, longer, and/or with a better form.

Comfort: Because orthotics can alter pressure in the feet, running can feel more pleasant and enjoyable. Orthotics may, among other things, change weight distribution in the lower limb.

Injury prevention: For those with a tendency to under- or over-pronate, there is an increased risk of injury. Orthotics can change your natural pronation to reduce that risk.
