Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose Total Care Health?

We are a team of experienced professionals from several disciplines that look at each case individually. We want you to be healthy and live your best life. We have the tools and experience to make that happen for you in a warm and compassionate environment.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

A doctor’s referral is not necessary to receive treatments at Total Care Health. However, the physiotherapist may suggest that you consult a doctor for their opinion or to get further tests done. Note that some extended health benefit plan insurance companies still require a doctor’s referral for reimbursement of physiotherapy treatments. It is the responsibility of the patient to check their coverage. Both work related accidents and Motor Vehicle accidents do require a doctor’s referral.

How many visits will I need?

This is highly variable. You may need one visit or you may need months of care. It depends on your diagnosis, the severity of your impairments, your past medical history, etc. You will be re-evaluated on a monthly basis and when you see your doctor, we will provide you with a progress report with our recommendations.

Is my therapist certified?

All our therapists are licensed.

Is physiotherapy for me?

Physiotherapy will help any individual with problems affecting the level of functionality of the musculo-skeletal system. This therapy specializes in the fields of sports and physical fitness.

Our physiotherapists apply various techniques to treat you such as manual therapy, sports therapy and progression through exercise, etc. Our patients can expect to improve their balance, their endurance, their strength and their coordination, which will help them stay active every day. Physiotherapy is offered in all of our clinics.

Does MSP cover my physiotherapy treatments?

Only those MSP beneficiaries with premium assistance status are eligible for a combined annual limit of 10 visit for physiotherapy. For further information on Premium Assistance please visit The Medical Services Plan Web site or call us to check whether you are eligible for MSP coverage.

Will my extended health plan cover my physiotherapy treatment?

Although everyone’s health and group plans are different, most plans will cover at least part of your physiotherapy treatment costs. Please check with your provider for more detailed information on benefits available to you.

Are we in contact with your doctor?

We ask your permission to send your doctor an initial report after we have assessed you. This ensures that your family physician knows you are receiving physiotherapy for a specific problem and how long we expect to treat you. If you have been referred by a specific physician we will also send them an initial report of our assessment findings.

What do I need to do after my treatments?

Some patients will need to continue with home exercises. Some may choose to continue with a gym exercise program. Others will complete their rehabilitation and return to normal daily activities. It is important that you communicate your goals to your therapist, so he/she can develop a custom program for you.
